Description Fiorenzo 2014-05-12 18:12:57 UTC
Description of problem:

KDE Print Manager isn't able to save printer options.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

kde-print-manager 4.12.5-1.fc20

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:

1. open "Systems Settings" and select "Printers"
2. enter your "root" credentials
3. select a printer and click "Configure"
4. change what you want in "Printer Options"
5. click "OK" or "Apply"

Actual results:

when you click "OK"/"Apply" nothing happens, and you have to click "Cancel" to close the window

Additional info:

you can use the CUPS web interface in order to change printer options

Comment 1 Sergio Basto 2014-12-22 03:07:35 UTC
for me, ask root password for second time, in a dialog which goes under windows of printer options, not easy to catch that, and can't type the root password on dialog because can't get cursor focus on password window dialog. So we can't change the printer options .

My workaround was call /usr/bin/systemsettings as root and go to printer setup.

Comment 2 giorgos.karagounis@ugent.be 2015-01-13 15:14:58 UTC
Same here, dialog box for root password appears under the printer settings window. Workaround does not work, I get following (unrelated) error:

systemsettings(10167): KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server: "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

systemsettings(10166): KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly.

The problem still persists on Fedora 21, kde-print-manager-4.14.3-2.fc21.x86_64.

The root password dialog box appears behind printers dialog and it is impossible to enter the password.

Comment 11 Maxim Egorushkin 2015-02-01 14:48:16 UTC
There is a recent patch for this problem https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/121351/diff/#

Comment 12 Rex Dieter 2015-02-01 19:04:39 UTC
Interesting you say that, the patch you refer to is already included in the kde-print-manager-4.14.3-2 build.

May be this one then: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=328014

Regardless, the bug is still present in Fedora 21. I had to resort to using `sudo /usr/bin/systemsettings` to install a printer, or print a test page.
