Description Andre Robatino 2014-05-22 22:15:26 UTC
Description of problem:
With mozilla-https-everywhere enabled, can't access http://www.pcworld.com with firefox-29.0.1-1.fc20, since it forces use of https, which that site doesn't allow. Works fine if I remove mozilla-https-everywhere.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
mozilla-https-everywhere-3.4.5-1.fc20.noarch
firefox-29.0.1-1.fc20

How reproducible:
always

Comment 1 Andre Robatino 2014-05-23 17:09:15 UTC
It works properly in Rawhide with its updated version, so if you push that to F20 and F19, this should be fixed.

mozilla-https-everywhere-3.5-1.fc21.noarch
firefox-29.0.1-4.fc21

Comment 2 Russell Golden 2014-06-18 15:46:05 UTC
I didn't push it to F19 and F20 because the addon didn't work at all in EL6. I don't have an F19/F20 machine available to test. I think it's something related to the sqlite database migration, but I honestly don't know how to debug it. I've contacted upstream, and all they said was "it's a pain to debug mozilla extensions." :/

I'll go ahead and build/push for updates-testing in Fedora, but PLEASE tell me whether it works there. I won't push to stable until I get a reply here in the bugzilla.

Comment 5 Andre Robatino 2014-06-18 17:34:35 UTC
Thanks. I just installed it in F20 and it seems to work so far, but will wait a while before giving karma in Bodhi. I also don't have a F19 machine, so called for other testers in https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test/2014-June/121658.html .

There also hasn't been an update for mozilla-adblockplus in a while. Is that affected as well?

Comment 6 Andre Robatino 2014-06-18 18:04:25 UTC
Unfortunately, it seems to be broken. I tried "Disable HTTPS Everywhere", then was unable to enable it again. By downgrading to 3.4.5-1.fc20, I could enable it.

I also noticed that with 3.5.1, when I went to http://www.wikipedia.org , it did not redirect to the HTTPS version, but 3.4.5 does. Am guessing this is broken in general.

I see the same thing in F19. 3.4.5 works at enable/disable and redirecting to https.

Very well. I shall unpush the builds from updates-testing.

No. This is specifically an HTTPS Everywhere issue. With 3.5, they moved from XML rules storage to sqlite, and it doesn't seem to work on Red Hat systems. However, it's just peachy on Debian.

I haven't entirely ruled out an issue with my spec file. I don't think there is one, but I really am not an expert at this.

Thanks for the testing.

Package mozilla-https-everywhere-3.5.1-2.fc19:
* should fix your issue,
* was pushed to the Fedora 19 testing repository,
* should be available at your local mirror within two days.
Update it with:
# su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing mozilla-https-everywhere-3.5.1-2.fc19'
as soon as you are able to.
Please go to the following url:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2014-7506/mozilla-https-everywhere-3.5.1-2.fc19
then log in and leave karma (feedback).

Comment 10 Russell Golden 2014-06-20 22:59:18 UTC
Problem located with 3.5 and 3.5.1. The extension's code was looking specifically in the user's profile directory for the sqlite database. Naturally, with an RPM install, the database isn't in the user's profile directory.

I told upstream about this, they confirmed it. Turns out they already had a fix for it in the latest devel release. I installed *that* via RPM, and found it worked fine.

3.5.2, once released upstream, will work on system-wide installs. For now, you can install 3.5.1 to your profile directory from the EFF website. Just make sure to remove it when the 3.5.2 RPM is released, or the RPM updates will be irrelevant. :P

This one seems to work properly on F20 (can access http://www.pcworld.com , http://www.wikipedia.org redirects to HTTPS, can disable and enable). Will use for a while before giving karma for F20.
