'git am'able fix attached, let me know if you'd like me to push and
build this for devel.

We could also have patched the upstream configure script to propagate CFLAGS, but this is fine by me.  Please commit.

Sure, but I decided to leave it to upstream to take care of the way they prefer. Applied in devel and building, I'll leave earlier distro versions to you.
