Taking. 

This package's autotool-sources are old and incompatible to the versions of the autotools being shipped in F21.

Patching the autotool-generated files instead of running the autotools while building fixes the FTBFS. 
An alternative approach would be to modernize the autotool-source files to make them compatible with modern autotools.

Provided upstream seems dead, I am resorting to the former approach (patching).
