Description Markus Stockhausen 2014-06-13 20:49:29 UTC
Description of problem:

Live migration of SLES11 SP2 guests in Ovirt with Fedora 20 hypervisor nodes crashes the guest if guest clocksoure is kvmclock.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Fedora 20
qemu-kvm.x86_64 2:1.6.2-6.fc20

How reproducible:

100%

Steps to Reproduce:

1. install SLES 11 SP2 guest into qemu VM
2. By default this VM will have a kvmclock clocksouce
3. sync clocks of hypervisor nodes with NTP
4. migrate VM between hosts

Actual results:

VM will hang with 100% CPU in 1 of 3 live migrations

Expected results:

VM will run on regardeless of live migrations.

Additional info:

error is fixed with this qemu commit:

http://git.qemu.org/?p=qemu.git;a=commit;h=a096b3a6732f846ec57dc28b47ee9435aa0609bf

Any chance to get that into Fedora stable?

Setting to POST since there's a patch available, I pull it into the next build

Comment 2 Markus Stockhausen 2014-07-19 12:15:44 UTC
Please ignore this request. Only a few hours ago the above mentioned patch and a fix an top of it was removed from qemu.

Thanks, taking out of POST. If another fix goes in after 2.1, please comment here so I don't miss it (I'll keep my eyes open too)

Comment 4 Markus Stockhausen 2014-11-19 16:37:35 UTC
Just for info. The resent patches are available. See another thread of me BZ1165336 that is about the same topic.

The fix has been sent to the official stable qemu mailing list:

http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/qemu-stable/2014-09/msg00276.html
http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/qemu-stable/2014-09/msg00275.html

We can wait for feedback in BZ1165336 and you could add the patches to 1.6.2 in FC20

Thanks in advance.

Comment 5 Markus Stockhausen 2014-11-25 17:10:44 UTC
Hi Cole,

as explained in BZ1165336 these are the required patches:

http://git.qemu.org/?p=qemu.git;a=commit;h=9a48bcd1b82494671c111109b0eefdb882581499
http://git.qemu.org/?p=qemu.git;a=commit;h=317b0a6d8ba44e9bf8f9c3dbd776c4536843d82c

Can you cherry pick them for qemu 1.6.2 (FC20) and 2.1.2 (FC21)?

Markus
