Doc Type: Bug Fix
Doc Text:
Previously, the Red Hat Storage Console installed Nagios and enabled monitoring by default. After the installation, if the user disabled the monitoring feature, the Nagios server would not stop running on the Red Hat Storage Console node. With this fix, to disable the monitoring feature, execute the 'rhsc-monitoring disable' command on the command line interface. This would stop the Nagios Server and Nagios Service Check Acceptor (NSCA) server.

Red Hat Product Errata RHBA-2015:0039 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE Red Hat Storage Console 3.0 enhancement and bug fix update #3 2015-01-15 18:46:40 UTC

Description Prasanth 2014-06-19 08:22:24 UTC
Description of problem:

Currently RHSC will install Nagios and enable it by default. Also, after the installation, if anytime user chooses to disable monitoring, he/she should be able to do so, without impacting any other RHSC functionality. When the user disables monitoring, the Trends tab should not be seen any more by Admin in RHSC UI, Nagios server should stop running and NRPE and NSCA services should stop communicating with the nodes.

Above is the Acceptance Critieria for the feature which was designed. However, currently there is No option to disable Nagios Monitoring either from RHSC UI or using any script

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
rhsc-3.0.0-0.11.el6_5.noarch
rhsc-monitoring-uiplugin-0.1.0-3.el6rhs.noarch

How reproducible: 100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install and setup RHSC + Nagios Server using http://rhsm.pad.engineering.redhat.com/rhsc-nagios-release-denali-8 with Monitoring enabled.
2. Now try to disable Monitoring from UI or from CLI
3.

Actual results: No option to disable Nagios Monitoring either from RHSC UI or using script

Expected results: As described in the Acceptance Critieria, there should be an option available to disable Nagios Monitoring either from RHSC UI or using script or both.

doc-text looks fine

Comment 5 Shubhendu Tripathi 2014-11-07 04:59:40 UTC
Use the command "rhsc-monitoring disable" from command line to disable already enabled monitoring feature in RHSC.

Comment 6 RamaKasturi 2014-11-13 10:17:35 UTC
Hi Shubhendu,

I ran the command "rhsc-monitoring disable" from CLI and restarted ovirt-engine.

The following is expected :

1) Trends tab should not be present.

2) Glusterfs Monitoring Home link should not be clickable.

3) If user has configured for any email/snmp config, it has to be stopped.

The following happens:

1) Trends tab is still present

2) Glusterfs Monitoring Home link is still active.

3) Nagios and nsca is stopped.

Could you please tell me if all the things under expected is covered?

Comment 7 Shubhendu Tripathi 2014-11-13 10:44:19 UTC
All that is needed is to refresh the page after enabling/disabling the monitoring feature.

Comment 8 RamaKasturi 2014-11-14 08:23:29 UTC
Verified and works fine with build rhsc-3.0.3-1.17.el6rhs.noarch.

When "rhsc-monitoring disable" is run and user refreshes the page, the following happens:

1) Trends tab is no more present.

2) Nagios and nsca services are stopped.

3) Email and snmp notifications are not sent.
