Description Andre Robatino 2014-06-20 10:15:40 UTC
Description of problem:
In Rawhide, gnome-terminal's menu doesn't contain "File/Open Tab", although Ctrl-Shift-T works. The menu also doesn't display the keyboard sequences corresponding to its entries (important since new users start out using the menu, and won't learn the keyboard sequences if the menu doesn't display them). Both of these work fine in F20's gnome-terminal.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-terminal-3.13.1-2.fc21

How reproducible:
always

Comment 1 Andre Robatino 2014-08-14 08:38:33 UTC
Also broken in F21.

Comment 2 Andre Robatino 2014-09-13 05:07:04 UTC
Still broken with gnome-terminal-3.13.90-1.fc21.

Comment 3 Andre Robatino 2014-09-16 19:30:35 UTC
I discovered that the removal of the separate "Open Tab" menu item is intentional, though not that of the keyboard sequences (see the thread at https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test/2014-September/122808.html ). You can close this bug if you want, though I still consider it a bug that the separate "Open Tab" option doesn't exist and that the one remaining option is configured with a hidden pref. Ctrl-Shift-N and Ctrl-Shift-T are both faster and predictable, so I think it's unlikely that anyone who knows about the Ctrl-Click trick would actually choose to use it.

I wonder if maybe cinnamon people can get this back.

Comment 5 Jaroslav Reznik 2015-03-03 16:02:57 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 22 development cycle.
Changing version to '22'.

Comment 6 Mike McLean 2015-05-12 15:29:25 UTC
+1 I use this all the time

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2016-07-19 11:49:27 UTC
Fedora 22 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-07-19. Fedora 22 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2017-07-25 18:40:36 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '24'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 9 Andre Robatino 2017-07-25 18:59:41 UTC
In F26, this is fixed. I didn't check in F25, which I'm not running anymore - is it fixed in that? If not I could bump the Version to 25.

Comment 10 Andre Robatino 2017-07-30 22:23:22 UTC
Running gnome-terminal from a F25 Live Workstation image shows that the bug is not fixed in F25, so I'm bumping the Version. (Though it's unlikely to get fixed in F25 since it will always have GNOME 3.22.)

Comment 12 Zach Ploskey 2017-11-16 19:11:23 UTC
In Fedora 25, there is now a File -> Open Tab -> <Profile selection>, but it doesn't have a keyboard sequence displayed on it. Not sure if it's the same on F26.

Comment 13 Zach Ploskey 2017-11-16 19:12:22 UTC
Excuse me, I meant on Fedora 26, I haven't upgraded to 27 yet.

Comment 14 Andre Robatino 2017-11-16 19:17:51 UTC
I'm currently running F26, and it appears fully fixed to me (both File/Open Tab, and displayed keyboard sequences, are available).

Comment 15 Zach Ploskey 2017-11-16 19:20:43 UTC
I should clarify that there *are* keyboard sequences for most things, but specifically not for "Open Tab" in Fedora 26.

Comment 16 Andre Robatino 2017-11-16 19:28:20 UTC
Not sure I know what I'm doing, but originally I had "Shift-Ctrl-T" next to "Open Tab". I inadvertently created a new Profile, then the "Shift-Ctrl-T" disappeared and was replaced with a submenu to choose Profile. After I deleted the extra Profile, the "Shift-Ctrl-T" returned. (I've never used extra Profiles before so never saw that.) So apparently you'll only see the "Shift-Ctrl-T" if you have exactly one Profile.
