Description of problem: The document loaded is an encrypted PDF file. Thunderbird started writer to view the document and that's all she wrote. Could you attach the file here? It is either badly misdetected (maybe it's corrupted? It is possible to open it in evince?) or it contains an embedded ODF that causes the problem.
It's currently not possible for me to create encrypted PDFs since pdftk was removed from Fedora.
