Another user experienced a similar problem: Happened after first log in to a clean Rawhide install (from 2014-07-04 boot.iso), with no interaction. May only happen if networking is not working (this was due to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=811967 ). reporter: libreport-2.2.2 backtrace_rating: 4 cmdline: /usr/libexec/packagekitd crash_function: pk_backend_refresh_cache_thread executable: /usr/libexec/packagekitd kernel: 3.16.0-0.rc3.git2.1.fc21.x86_64 package: PackageKit-0.9.3-1.fc21 reason: packagekitd killed by SIGSEGV runlevel: N 5 type: CCpp uid: 0
Nominating as a Final release blocker, criterion "There must be no SELinux denial notifications or crash notifications on boot of or during installation from a release-blocking live image, or at first login after a default install of a release-blocking desktop." - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_21_Final_Release_Criteria#SELinux_and_crash_notifications
I've tried to reproduce this and haven't had much luck so far. Is the crash still happening with latest updates?
it was a fly-by VM test for me. as noted in my comment I ran into it on a VM boot where networking failed because of a libvirt/dnsmasq issue, so that may have something to do with it.
I managed reproduce a similar crash on live media with the image locally mounted. PK was looking through the local mounts to see if anything is usable as a local repo and that led to a crash. The backtrace here is unfortunately not very helpful, anything interesting is <optimized out>, so I can't be 100% sure it's the same crash, but I believe it's likely the same issue. http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/libhif.git/commit/?h=f21&id=b5b1043fa2150299e23cb96f2c34e50ee0d13487
Thanks. I did see it several times last night while working on https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1114207 , so it looks like it happens reasonably frequently; so once the fix lands, I'll know whether that got it or not.
