Steps to Reproduce:
1. touch /etc/ovirt-engine/extensions.d/something.properties
2. service ovirt-engine restart

Actual results:
engine don't start

Expected results:
engine start, and ignore my_ldap.conf

Verified in ovirt-engine-3.5.0-0.0.master.20140722232058.git8e1babc.el6.noarch.

properties file is ignored and engine start.

2014-07-29 11:14:33,684 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.utils.extensionsmgr.EngineExtensionsManager] (MSC service thread 1-4) Could not load extension based on configuration file '/etc/ovirt-engine/extensions.d/something.properties'. Please check the configuration file is valid. Exception message is: Error loading extension __unamed_020__

oVirt 3.5 has been released and should include the fix for this issue.
