Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.
Cause: write a new header name into Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences->Headers tab and click Add button beside the name
Consequence: evolution crashes
Fix: correct code to not dereference NULL
Result: evolution doesn't crash and adds the header to the message preview
Description of problem: When selecting the "Mailer" header in preferences, Evolution crashes
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.8.5
How reproducible:
Steps to Reproduce:
1) Start Evolution
2) Select Edit -> Preferences
3) Select Mail Preferences
4) Select Headers tab
5) Click on the checkbox by "Mailer"
6) Evolution crashes
Actual results: seg fault
Expected results: Box checked and "X-Mailer" and "User-Agent" headers added to display of messages
Additional info: Originally reported in the CentOS bug tracker as bug 7419
Thanks for a bug report. Could you paste here a backtrace of the crash with a debuginfo package for evolution installed, thus it'll show where exactly evolution crashed, please? Also provide exact package versions, because the "3.8.5" is not going to change any time soon.
To get a backtrace, you can do it like this (after installing the debug info) from a terminal:
$ gdb evolution --ex r --ex bt --ex q
Which will run evolution under gdb, then reproduce the crash, which will print the backtrace and then will try to quit gdb. There will be needed some confirmations, also during the backtrace print, in case it'll be long enough.
[root@pc65 ~]# rpm -qa evolution\*
evolution-debuginfo-3.8.5-22.el7_0.1.x86_64
evolution-data-server-3.8.5-24.el7_0.x86_64
evolution-3.8.5-22.el7_0.1.x86_64
The system is a CentOS-7 installed as minimal followed by "yum install evolution".
