Description Lingfei Kong 2014-08-25 08:22:38 UTC
Description of problem:
I try to to install Win2012r2(en_windows_server_2012_r2_x64_dvd_2707946.iso) and Win8.1(en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x86_dvd_2972289.iso) guest on intel host but failed. I checked log file xend.log found the following line:
[2014-07-25 00:11:12 xend.XendDomainInfo 27541] ERROR (XendDomainInfo:2864) VM hvm-win2012-64-1 restarting too fast (Elapsed time: 1.111902 seconds). Refusing to restart to avoid loops.

It seems that the guest was repeated restart du to some reason.

The following are my test results on intel hosts also with the cpuinfo of processor 0.

Can install Win2012r2 and Win8.1 guest on all AMD hosts i test with.

I try rhel5.10 host on some machines, it have the same results with rhel5.11 host. I don't know if this problem is caused by the cpu type, just list my test results here.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Guest: Win2012r2(en_windows_server_2012_r2_x64_dvd_2707946.iso) and Win8.1(en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x86_dvd_2972289.iso)
kernel-xen-2.6.18-398.el5
xen-3.0.3-144.el5

How reproducible:
Some intel hosts

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get a Win2012r2 iso file(/root/win2012r2.iso)
2. Create raw format guest image
# dd if=/dev/zero of=/var/lib/xen/images/hvm-win2012-64-1.img bs=1M count=1 seek=15000
3. Create the guest use the following configure file:
# cat hvm-win2012-64-1.cfg
name = "hvm-win2012-64-1"
maxmem = 1024
memory = 1024
vcpus = 4
builder = "hvm"
kernel = "/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader"
boot = "d"
pae = 1
acpi = 1
apic = 1
sdl = 0
vnc = 1
vncunused = 1
vnclisten = "0.0.0.0"
keymap = "en-us"
on_poweroff = "destroy"
on_reboot = "restart"
on_crash = "preserve"
device_model = "/usr/lib64/xen/bin/qemu-dm"
disk = ["file:/var/lib/xen/images/hvm-win2012-64-1.img,hda,w","file:/root/win2012r2.iso,hdc:cdrom,r"]
vif = [ "mac=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx,bridge=xenbr0,script=vif-bridge"]
serial = "pty"
usbdevice = "tablet"

#xm create hvm-win2012-64-1.cfg

Actual results:
After create the guest, i monitor it via vncviewer, found it only output some messages(see attachment win2012r2_installation.png) and then the guest was destroyed from the host.
#xm list
Name ID Mem(MiB) VCPUs State Time(s)
Domain-0                                   0    29971    24 r-----   1607.9

Expected results:
Can install the guest successfully

Additional info:
The attachment is log file: qemu-dm.27594.log, xend.log and the output of command 'xm dmesg': xm_dmesg.log

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 shipped it's last minor release, 5.11, on September 14th, 2014. On March 31st, 2017 RHEL 5 exited Production Phase 3 and entered Extended Life Phase. For RHEL releases in the Extended Life Phase, Red Hat will provide limited ongoing technical support. No bug fixes, security fixes, hardware enablement or root-cause analysis will be available during this phase, and support will be provided on existing installations only. If the customer purchases the Extended Life-cycle Support (ELS), certain critical-impact security fixes and selected urgent priority bug fixes for the last minor release will be provided. For more details please consult the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Life Cycle Page:
https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata

This BZ does not appear to meet ELS criteria so is being closed WONTFIX. If this BZ is critical for your environment and you have an Extended Life-cycle Support Add-on entitlement, please open a case in the Red Hat Customer Portal, https://access.redhat.com ,provide a thorough business justification and ask that the BZ be re-opened for consideration of an errata. Please note, only certain critical-impact security fixes and selected urgent priority bug fixes for the last minor release can be considered.
