Could you post the list of wine font packages you have installed? $ rpm -qa | grep wine | grep font | sort I do not have that software, but I took the Cyrillic alphabet and pasted it into Wine notepad with the Courier New font. Not all symbols display, but this has been an issue for a long time. 1.7.5: http://i.imgur.com/l87EpEn.png 1.7.26: http://i.imgur.com/OdWDdOv.png
$ rpm -qa | grep wine | grep font | sort wine-arial-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-courier-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-fixedsys-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-marlett-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-ms-sans-serif-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-small-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-symbol-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-system-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-tahoma-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-wingdings-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch
Comment 5 Sebastian Lackner 2014-09-28 12:53:11 CDT From the list of applied patches, and the following part from the downstream bugreport, this can be closed as invalid: --- snip --- $ rpm -qa | grep wine | grep font | sort wine-arial-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch wine-courier-fonts-1.7.26-1.fc21.noarch <--- [...] --- snip --- The issue is caused by the replacement font, and uninstalling this package should be sufficient to get back to the old behaviour. Just a side note: I explicitly warned the Fedora maintainers about including our patches in their official versions, because I already feared that people would report issues caused by the patches to upstream Wine ... I think I'll open a bug report for that, so that they make more clear, that Fedora wine is not identical to the packages from winehq.org... Comment 6 Mikhail 2014-09-28 13:01:01 CDT Too bad that I can't remove wine-courier-fonts without removing wine :( [root@localhost ~]# rpm -e wine-courier-fonts error: Failed dependencies: wine-courier-fonts = 1.7.27-1.fc21 is needed by (installed) wine-fonts-1.7.27-1.fc21.noarch [root@localhost ~]# rpm -e wine-fonts error: Failed dependencies: wine-fonts = 1.7.27-1.fc21 is needed by (installed) wine-1.7.27-1.fc21.x86_64 Comment 7 Sebastian Lackner 2014-09-28 13:04:50 CDT I don't think its necessary to have all the fonts as fixed dependencies. This is something the Fedora guys could easily change, by making all the compholio replacement fonts optional dependencies. I would recommend to suggest this in the downstream bugreport as an easy workaround.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '21'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fixed in wine-1.7.53
