Description of problem: I have a Canon-MP640 attached to a Linux Mint 17 computer. I have a Fedora 20(LXDE) laptop that has been able to add and print to the printer. I also have a Fedora 21(GNOME) desktop that has been able to add the printer through "settings", but the test page fails. Printing from gedit also fails. I have been able to add and print to this printer from a Windows laptop, as well. systemctl status cups.service shows "Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)" Viewing print jobs states "held" Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to Gnome settings->printers->add printer 2. It finds the network printer 3. Everything appears ok. 4. Print test page fails. Actual results: Cannot print to network printer Expected results: Ability to print to network printer Additional info:
Hi Dale, do you need to authenticate to be able to print to the printer? Does "smbclient -L server.name -N" shows the printer? (btw, adding the printer by writing server name of your server to the netry in the new printer dialog should offer you IPP version of the printer if configured. The printer should work if installed this way.) Regards Marek
smbclient -L sulu -N Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 4.1.6-Ubuntu] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- IPC$ IPC IPC Service (sulu server (Samba, Linux Mint)) print$ Disk Printer Drivers Canon-MP640-series Printer Canon MP640 series Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 4.1.6-Ubuntu] Server Comment --------- ------- MITCH SULU sulu server (Samba, Linux Mint) Workgroup Master --------- ------- WORKGROUP SULU However, I accessed the CUPS settings on the Mint computer (sulu) via localhost:631 and enabled "Share printers connected to this system" and it now seems to be working. Another "printer" showed up in the dialog, which I assume is via IPP.

Yes, this could be the reason why it didn't work before. > Another "printer" showed up in the dialog, which I > assume is via IPP. I think that it is DNS-SD protocol (but I don't know which version of CUPS does the Linux Mint have). One of the problems here is probably that the printing of test page doesn't asks for password. I'll try to address this in a future version of gnome-control-center.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '21'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 21 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-12-01. Fedora 21 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
