Description Munir Faridi 2014-09-13 19:46:09 UTC
Description of problem:

I logged into my WordPress admin console a few days ago and was asked to upgrade to WP 4.0. I upgraded and it said it was successful. However, after completion it redirected me to a page that said "Welcome to WordPress 3.9.2" along with a video entitled "Welcome to Wordpress 4.0 'Benny'". I tried several times and the same thing would happen. I also upgraded my themes and plug-ins.

In addition to that, I can no longer go to the Customize page. When I click on Customize I get a page that just says "cheatin uh?". I also can't access the Users page or the Plug-ins page both of which just display completely blank white screens.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

WordPress 3.9.2 and/or 4.0

How reproducible:

This was a WordPress upgrade to 4.0

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log into WP admin console
2. There's a message that says "WordPress 4.0 is available! Please update now."
3. Click on "Please update now" then click "Update Now" and it starts unpacking "https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-4.0-no-content.zip"
4. End message says "Welcome to WordPress 4.0. You will be redirected to the About WordPress screen, if not blah blah blah" then redirects to the page I described above.
5. Then on left sidebar click on Users or Plug-ins or Appearance->Customize.

Actual results:

Clicking on Users or Plug-ins shows me a blank white screen. Clicking on Appearance->Customize shows me blank screen with the words "Cheatin' uh?" within a white banner.

Expected results:

Expecting normal User, Plug-ins, and Customize pages.

Munir, I tried to install Wordpress (3.9.2) using the Wordpress quickstart. Then I upgraded it to 4.0 and everything went smoothly.

It might be that you had old quickstart, with different structure and that quickstart failed to upgrade properly. Is it possible for you to create a new application, using Wordpress and then do upgrade on the new application? (And then migrate the data you have).

Comment 2 Munir Faridi 2014-09-18 16:14:40 UTC
Thanks Michal.

I created a new WordPress app and upgraded to 4.0 and it was successful.

Strange thing, I also logged into the old app (the one I was having a problem with) and before it logged me into the admin console it said a database upgrade was required first. It never prompted me for this before. So I upgraded the database, it logged me in, and everything seems to work fine now. I can access the pages I couldn't before and I no longer get the "Cheatin' uh?" message.

Anyway, thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.
