Created attachment 937312 [details] Journalctl log from the moment I've disconnected screen Description of problem: My laptop runs dual screen setup most of time (external VGA screen as primary and an embedded one as secondary). Whenever I disconnect my external display I expect that OS detects loss of one of displays and assume GUI works fine. But actually Fedora never detects such disconnection and when I turn off display via Control Center or Fn button of laptop keyboard GUI dies. It seems that GUI dies without SEGFAULT, as abrtd never suggests to submit a bugreport. The hardware is: * Dell Inspiron 1520 * NVidia GeForce 8400M GS: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G86M [GeForce 8400M GS] (rev a1) I use nvidia proprietary driver, because nouveau doesn't support clocking and overheats my graphics adapter, causing hardware failures and reboots (CPU and adapter have the same radiator). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): $ uname -a Linux kelly.ddns.int.prhv.afunix.org 3.15.10-200.fc20.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Aug 14 15:39:24 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux kmod-nvidia-3.15.10-200.fc20.x86_64-331.89-2.fc20.9.x86_64 akmod-nvidia-331.89-2.fc20.x86_64 kmod-nvidia-3.15.10-201.fc20.x86_64-331.89-2.fc20.10.x86_64 kmod-nvidia-3.16.2-200.fc20.x86_64-331.89-2.fc20.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-331.89-2.fc20.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs-331.89-2.fc20.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs-331.89-2.fc20.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.14.4-11.fc20.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-common-1.14.4-11.fc20.x86_64 abrt-addon-xorg-2.2.2-1.fc20.x86_64 gnome-desktop3-3.10.2-2.fc20.x86_64 How reproducible: Easily with my hardware Steps to Reproduce: 1. Login to Gnome in dual screen mode 2. Disconnect external screen 3. Force switching to single screen mode Actual results: Gnome show only secondary screen after step #2 Gnome dies and GDM login prompt is show after step #3 Expected results: Gnome switches to single screen mode automatically, embedded screen becomes primary, GUI works. This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '20'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
