Sorry about the noise...

Description of problem:
Dropdownlists of x11 applications interact badly. In webpages of firefox dropdownlists can only be selected with the keyboard not with the mouse.

In gedit there is a Dropdown list in the file selection dialog of the open dialog the one for encoding.

when gedit is started with wayland backend it works.
when gedit is started with x11 backend there is no hover effect but te correct value is selected

In Gimp dropdown is only usable with keyboard.

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In gnome-wayland-session
2. klick on drop-down button
3. menu opens
4. options are not clickable or not highlighted

Actual results:
Options are not clickable or not highlighted

Expected results:
Options should be highlighted on hover and activated on click.

Dropdown lists behave very bad:
Same with firefox (gtk2 version, running under Xwayland I suppose). This can be reproduced when creating a new bug report for bugzilla.
Happens in gnome-control-center too.
works fine with vlc
This seems to be a bug affecting both gtk2 and gtk3 but not qt.

I think the other bug is the same as this one.

@Dietrich: I'm not quite sure about that since both bugs affect different sets of toolkits. But they should at least have the same cause/reason.
