Description of problem: When I boot Server DVD/netinst Beta RC1, anaconda tells me that I booted a) Server product b) Beta version. This is both displayed on the welcome screen and the main hub screen. See screenshots. (The underscore looks a bit unprofessional). When I boot Workstation Live Beta RC1, anaconda doesn't tell me any of that. There is no Workstation product identification, the welcome screen says "Welcome to Fedora 21". Also there is no Beta version information. On the other hand, there is big red "PRE-RELEASE/TESTING" in the upper right corner on both screens. It's true that the pre-release warning informs the user sufficiently that this is not the final product (together with the Timbuktu dialog), however, it's quite inconvenient to not know which exact pre-release milestone this is. Also, since we're now productized, it seems the product specification should be there. Otherwise it appears to be some generic Fedora installer. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): F21 Beta RC1 anaconda-21.48.12-1.fc21.x86_64 fedora-release-21-0.16.noarch fedora-release-workstation-21-0.16.noarch

This might fail https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_21_Alpha_Release_Criteria#Self-identification : " Any component which prominently identifies a Fedora release version number, code name or milestone (Alpha, Beta, Final) must do so correctly. " or not. Proposing for discussion whether this is just nit-picking or whether we want to have it fixed before releasing Beta. Also, it might be a good idea to discuss whether "product" should be included in that criterion as well.
Created attachment 951013 [details] F20 Beta DVD welcome screen For comparison, I managed to find how F20 Beta looked like (thanks to YouTube, because it's extremely hard to find the actual iso images anymore). As you can see, the missing milestone problem is not new, it was present in F20 Beta Live as well. So we might want to increase our standards, but the problem is not a recent regression :) The missing product issue is new though, of course.

I'd be -1 blocker on this. The criterion is actually quite carefully worded not to require that a milestone be shown, only that *if* it is shown, it be correct. I think if there was no pre-release notice anywhere and no Timbuktu screen we might want to worry, but I'm not that bothered about the top-right corner text if the other bits are there.
Discussed at 2014-10-27 blocker review meeting: http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-blocker-review/2014-10-27/f21-blocker-review.2014-10-27-16.01.log.txt . Rejected as a blocker by consensus along the lines of c#8 - everyone agreed the criterion is clearly worded not to cover a case like this (and I asserted that's actually what it's meant to do, to the best of my memory). We feel there is enough identification of this as a Beta/pre-release that it's not a release-blocking problem that it isn't indicated in this particular place.
The Workstation Live Beta iimage does not identify itself as either Beta or Workstation. On the Server images this information comes from the /.buildstamp file, but there's no information of that sort on the live images. This is the kind of thing a product.img is for.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '21'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
There's no point in dealing with install images for F21 now.
