By default, screencasts have maximum length of 30s to prevent creating too large files without users realizing so. This maximum can be changed with: gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys max-screencast-length 120 or any other value in seconds. Feel free to re-open if this isn't the problem you're facing.
