RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Ryan H. Lewis (rhl) 2014-11-19 07:02:58 UTC
Description of problem:

lapack-devel in RHEL6 is version 3.2.1 and is missing headers. This renders the -devel package fairly useless.

The headers are provided on the http://netlib.org/lapack website and are packaged in newer cuts of lapack-devel.

A quick look at the koji history suggests that the 2011 release of lapack 3.4 started including headers..

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
All until version 3.4 of lapack

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. yum install lapack-devel
2. fail.

Actual results:
no headers

Expected results:
headers

Additional info:
header files are useful for compiling software to later link against.

Comment 2 Ryan H. Lewis (rhl) 2014-11-19 07:20:27 UTC
I should say, upstream was not providing the headers in the tarball the packages are built off of, but they are provided on upstreams website.

Thanks for reporting this issue. As a side note, rebase is very unlikely - we don't do that in the major releases too often - especially in the case of libraries.
Adding headers is possible, but update capacity is always limited - so we can try to do that via fastrack (as it basically doesn't affect existing functionality and just fixes broken thing) or we would require escalation via proper product support mechanisms (bugzilla is direct link to engineering and doesn't provide any SLAs). If you are going to escalate this through support, please inform them about existing bugzilla.

Comment 9 Ryan H. Lewis (rhl) 2014-11-19 16:45:28 UTC
The update via fastrack is fine..

Comment 18 Jakub Martisko 2016-10-18 07:16:44 UTC
The headers mentioned above, are in fact not headers for lapack which is
fully written in fortran, but for lapacke (notice the "e") - a C
interface for lapack -> since the interface was released as an independent archive for the version of Lapack provided in rhel 6.9., this is in fact a feature request. Because, the rhel 6.9 is in the Production phase 2, no feature request are provided. Because of this and the fact that there were some problems with building the interface for some of the architectures, closing this bug as WONTFIX. For rhel 7, lapacke interface is already provided.
