RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Product Errata RHEA-2015:2139 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE new packages: gnome-software 2015-11-19 09:23:22 UTC

Description Stefan Walter 2014-12-15 07:10:05 UTC
Description of problem:

The Gnome software updater throws the following stack trace in a popup window
at our site as soon as there are packages to update. The updates can be installed after clicking the message away:

Error Type: <type 'exceptions.AttributeError'>
Error Value: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'find'
  File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3587, in <module>

    if notice['from'].find('updates') != -1:

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

PackageKit-yum-0.8.9-11.el7.x86_64

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start the Software Update application when updates are available.

Additional info:

The problem seems to stem from this ancient patch:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=37813&action=edit

In the second replaced line the code should first check if "if notice['from']" is defined. Sloppy programming...

Comment 5 Richard Hughes 2015-07-08 09:13:02 UTC
I've pushed upstream a slightly simpler version:

commit d8066005533ab0e7c1cce0d56844694d16fc14eb
Author: Richard Hughes <richard>
Date: Wed Jul 8 10:12:12 2015 +0100

yum: Fix backtrace when getting the update details

In some cases a metadata source might not set the [from] attribute, which would
make PackageKit abort when we try to search for a string in it.
