When you create a new operating system (Hosts->Operating Systems) and select the standard RH supplied media and then go to a host and under 'Operating System' assign this new OS then you can build this server with this OS and the provisioning templates assigned to it. However, when the server reports back into Satellite the Operating System (in the Operating System tab) will revert back to the name in the media (RHEL Server 6.5 in out case). If this OS has no provisioning templates assigned then you do not know exactly how you built the server. The operating system information should match the operating system you used to build the server with. Hide Section - Tags
From Andrew: We wanted to test if it was possible to create a custom OS (which the GUI seems to allow). So the issues are that I can create this but as details originally state a server build with this new OS will revert its name to the RH name.
Since this issue was entered in Red Hat Bugzilla, the release flag has been set to ? to ensure that it is properly evaluated for this release.

changing needinfo to ohad.
Thanks for the report Karl, we introduced a setting to disable updating of OS based on incoming puppet facts. There are users who prefer OS updating based on current information from host which is why we made it optional. Would it solve the issue for you? It's tracked as BZ #1155704 If it does, please close this as a duplicate of it.
