RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Paulo Andrade 2014-12-26 12:07:41 UTC
I believe it is not composing text.
Example:

"Then você precisará mudar o rótulo ..."

Instead of "Then" it is "Então"

"If você acredita que o httpd ..."

Instead of "If" it is "Se"

There are several "simple words" in the
incorrect tense, but those are not trivial
to correct, as need to the see the context,
where in the interface it appears.

Comment 4 Vit Mojzis 2017-09-04 10:30:27 UTC
Thank you for reporting the issue, the following commits should mend the if/then combination.

https://pagure.io/setroubleshoot/c/99c85e991195fd5f5927e65643c8e02d3530c8a7?branch=stable
https://pagure.io/setroubleshoot/c/bb580a01fda8971f516252fdda39c0a5b7398582?branch=stable
https://pagure.io/setroubleshoot/c/21b18ac511ad8ed25d967b0face1d56590894af7?branch=stable

As for the "simple words", could you please be more specific? If you could provide the strings in question (preferably in English), we should be able to pinpoint their occurrence in the interface.

Comment 5 Paulo Andrade 2017-09-04 14:27:32 UTC
I do not remember all details, but just running sealert -b on a rhel7
using pt_BR I see at first:

Window title needs a space:

SELinux Alert Browser -> Navegador de Alertasdo SELinux
words concatenated, should be "Alertas do"

The source process: -> O processo de origem:
would be better as just "Processo de origem:"

On this directory: -> Em directory:
would be better "No diretório:"

I am uncertain about some complex phrases, if it is translation
error or bad due to lack of context. A simple one:

If you believe that bash should be allowed write access on the null file by default.
Se você acredita que o bash deva ser permitido acesso de write em null file por default.

The correct sentence would be:
"Se você acredita que o bash deva ter acesso de escrita no arquivo null por padrão."

But this is not a end user tool, so, the above commits already did great.

I believe the issue is context, for example, checking
https://pagure.io/setroubleshoot/blob/master/f/framework/po/pt_BR.po I
would say like 95% or more is good, there are a few clear errors (like
not translating in computing sense). Most issues looks like related to
composing text and/or in some cases $VARS not translated. If these
$VARS are not multiple words, it should be ok, otherwise, not only
in Portuguese adverb goes after adjective, and things start to get
confusing.

Re. Comment 5:
Several issues are covered by this bug, most of which should be resolved by the patches.

1) A missing space in the window title is obviously a code issue and should be fixed by the patches.

2) Complete strings that were incorrectly translated such as "The source process" have to be fixed by Portugese speakers in https://fedora.zanata.org/iteration/view/setroubleshoot/stable
In this case the translation is fixed. But if you find any more, please try to correct them directly in zanata.

3) Parametric strings such as "On this %object_class" (e.g. "On this directory") are difficult to deal with correctly. We understand that in some languages it's impossible to translate them so that every combination is grammatically correct. However expanding such strings would unreasonably bloat the code and make translating way more time consuming.

4) Plugin "If" statements such as "If you believe that bash should be allowed write access on the null file by default.". The "If" part of the string used to be separate from the rest of the sentence which is fixed now.

Furthermore we have increased the amount of translatable text (e.g. tooltips, all buttons and window titles are now translatable) which should improve user experience. Obviously not all strings are translated which is something we need native speakers for. (Anyone can contribute to the translations on https://fedora.zanata.org/iteration/view/setroubleshoot)

Re. Comment 8:
Thank you for verifying the fixes.
