Description Stefan Billeb 2015-01-05 14:55:06 UTC
Description of problem:

When you enter a sudo command the first time, a notification prompt is displayed. It contains a typo in paragraph 1)

See following log:

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 21

How reproducible: Log in with fresh user and sudo rights

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add user with visudo
2. enter sudo command

Actual results:
[stefan@localhost ~]$ sudo yum update

------

#1) Resprektieren

Expected results:

#1) Respektieren

Thanks for reporting this. You don't have specified a distribution version, so I was searching for the typo in the po files [1]. It has been fixed in v1.8.11b1 [2].

In Fedora 21 we have v1.8.11p2, and there the mistake doesn't appear. Fedora 20 has v1.8.8, so I assume you are using f20? Nevertheless, a newer package (also v1.8.11p2) is already in "Updates Testing", so it should be installable on a f20 system soon. Last but not least, Centos 7 (v1.8.6p7) and older still have this typo.

To summarize, there's only something to fix in the RHEL/Centos package, either by patching it or packaging a newer "sudo" version.

Hello Mario,

I have specified the version.
It is a fresh Fedora 21 installation.

Comment 3 Mario Blättermann 2015-01-05 19:49:12 UTC
I've just downloaded the f21 package and extracted the file sudoers.po:

msgid ""
"\n"
"We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System\n"
"Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:\n"
"\n"
" #1) Respect the privacy of others.\n"
" #2) Think before you type.\n"
" #3) With great power comes great responsibility.\n"
"\n"
msgstr ""
"\n"
"Wir gehen davon aus, dass der lokale Systemadministrator Ihnen die\n"
"Regeln erklärt hat. Normalerweise läuft es auf drei Regeln hinaus:\n"
"\n"
" #1) Resprektieren Sie die Privatsphäre anderer.\n"
" #2) Denken Sie nach bevor Sie tippen.\n"
" #3) Mit großer Macht kommt große Verantwortung.\n"
"\n"

Indeed, the typo is still there. But if you update to the latest sudo package from the official update mirrors, you'll get the following:

msgid ""
"\n"
"We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System\n"
"Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:\n"
"\n"
" #1) Respect the privacy of others.\n"
" #2) Think before you type.\n"
" #3) With great power comes great responsibility.\n"
"\n"
msgstr ""
"\n"
"Wir gehen davon aus, dass der lokale Systemadministrator Ihnen die\n"
"Regeln erklärt hat. Normalerweise läuft es auf drei Regeln hinaus:\n"
"\n"
" #1) Respektieren Sie die Privatsphäre anderer.\n"
" #2) Denken Sie nach bevor Sie tippen.\n"
" #3) Mit großer Macht kommt große Verantwortung.\n"
"\n"

Just update your system, that's all.

Comment 4 Stefan Billeb 2015-01-06 07:55:20 UTC
Upgrading fixed the typo.

Comment 5 Mario Blättermann 2015-01-07 20:29:46 UTC
(In reply to Stefan Billeb from comment #4)
> Upgrading fixed the typo.

So I assume we can safely close this ticket.
