Description of problem: I had to update to a post-2.13 release of polymake in Rawhide, due to perl issues. The snapshot that is currently in Rawhide actually expects Singular 3.1.7. I had to do a little work to get it to work properly with Singular 3.1.6, but was able to do so successfully. Now a new polymake snapshot is out that fixes some bugs in the previous snapshot, but it expects Singular 4.0.0 or later. (Specifically, it needs some functions in libpolys, which do not exist in the Singular 3.x releases.) Is there any hope of upgrading to a 4.x release anytime soon? For a full sagemath upstream discussion, including patches see http://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/17254 I would prefer to wait until it is integrated in sagemath, but if you would like to experiment with the patches in the above trac, feel free to it :) Need to also make sure an update would work with Macaulay2.
Fwiw, newer Macaulay2 releases need 4.x too
