Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description John Gallucci 2015-01-15 00:11:39 UTC
Title: Configuring LDAP Authentication for Red Hat Satellite

Describe the issue:
LDAP settings are configured, but user cannot login.

Suggestions for improvement:
This is more a request than a bug, but there needs to be a "Test LDAP Connection" button with a viewable error message. Nowadays almost all enterprise products have this feature. Having to debug user login errors without being able to first confirm your LDAP settings even work creates a hassle when troubleshooting. The settings in the instructions are very vague as well as to what works and what doesnt. These details should be expanded out as well.

Additional information:
Using Red Hat Satellite 6 running on RHEL 6.6.

Since this issue was entered in Red Hat Bugzilla, the release flag has been
set to ? to ensure that it is properly evaluated for this release.

and password for the LDAP settings ended up being incorrect. The log /var/log/foreman/production.log was the only location I could find that had information on there even being an error in the first place. I was left to troubleshoot all settings for 20 minutes until I figured out what was wrong.

Please provide the correct log and log settings that show the details on the LDAP authentication.

I should add that the issue ended up being the fact that the account username and password for the LDAP settings ended up being incorrect. The log /var/log/foreman/production.log was the only location I could find that had information on there even being an error in the first place. I was left to troubleshoot all settings for 20 minutes until I figured out what was wrong.

Please provide the correct log and log settings that show the details on the LDAP authentication.

Hello John,

Sorry for the late reply to this ticket. I've escalated this to the developers to see if this sort of feature can be accommodated or if one exists. If one exists, then we'll schedule it into the documentation at a later date. If this does not exist, I will change the component from documentation to something else so that the developers can keep track if this possible feature request.

Cheers,
Athene
