Description Frédéric Parrenin 2015-01-30 20:09:53 UTC
Description of problem:
Suspend does not work out of the box on the chromebook Acer C720P

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 21

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Buy an Acer C720P ;-)
2. Install the firmware by John Lewis: http://johnlewis.ie/
3. Install Fedora 21
4. Boot into F21
5. Close the Lid

Actual results:
The computer does not go to suspend

Expected results:
The computer should go to suspend

Additional info:
There is a proposed hack to have suspend working with F21:
http://forums.fedora-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=61252
I copy below a translation of it.
It does indeed allow to suspend, albeit at wake up, I loose the sound of google-chrome or epiphany if there are playing youtube video. I have to restart them.
So I am asking:
- if the hacks proposed or some other working solution could be incorporated into Fedora
- if there is a way to keep the sound working on youtube videos after a wake up

-----------------------------------------------

1) Create the /etc/tmpfiles.d/cros-acpi-wakeup.conf file:

# /etc/tmpfiles.d/cros-acpi-wakeup.conf
w /proc/acpi/wakeup - - - - EHCI
w /proc/acpi/wakeup - - - - HDEF
w /proc/acpi/wakeup - - - - XHCI
w /proc/acpi/wakeup - - - - LID0
w /proc/acpi/wakeup - - - - TPAD
w /proc/acpi/wakeup - - - - TSCR
On crée le fichier /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/cros-sound-suspend.sh
#!/bin/bash
case $1/$2 in
  pre/*)
    # Kill flash plugin as it prevent suspend
    pgrep -f flashplayer | xargs kill >/dev/null 2>&1
    # Unbind ehci for preventing error
    echo -n "0000:00:1d.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci-pci/unbind
    # Unbind snd_hda_intel for sound
    echo -n "0000:00:1b.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/snd_hda_intel/unbind
    echo -n "0000:00:03.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/snd_hda_intel/unbind
    ;;
  post/*)
    # Bind ehci for preventing error
    echo -n "0000:00:1d.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci-pci/bind
    # bind snd_hda_intel for sound
    echo -n "0000:00:1b.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/snd_hda_intel/bind
    echo -n "0000:00:03.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/snd_hda_intel/bind
    ;;
esac

2) Make the file executable:
# chmod +x /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/cros-sound-suspend.sh

3) Edit GRUB file /etc/default/grub, and add this line at the end:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash tpm_tis.force=1 tpm_tis.interrupts=0"

4) Update grub:
# grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

5) Reboot.

Comment 1 Guillaume Poirier-Morency 2015-06-25 05:51:23 UTC
Suspend works with the latest kernel since a while now. There's an issue when resumed however:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1218734

I think that this bug can be marked as fixed upstream.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2015-11-04 10:07:19 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '21'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2015-12-02 08:18:40 UTC
Fedora 21 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-12-01. Fedora 21 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
