Description loberman 2015-02-03 16:18:05 UTC
Description of problem:
Require an easy way to update kernels in a RHEV-H environment

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

RHEV-H RHEL6 +
How reproducible:
We have no easy way to install test kernels or specific kernel updates to allow troubleshooting and problem isolation of RHEV-H configurations.

Actual results:
Unable to install test kernel on a RHEV-H without getting an complete new ISO with the test kernel installed.

Expected results:
Menu driven or command line way to update kernels in RHEV-H with test kernels

Additional info:
We have a quite a few situations where we had to get a complete ISO built for RHEV-H to enable test kernels to be installed because of space issues.
I am asking for a way to do this via the menu or even from the command line.

See BZ 1168742 as an example.

Comment 2 Fabian Deutsch 2015-02-03 18:02:05 UTC
This is not trivial to fix because of the build process of RHEV-H.

Currently the dev teams need to provide ISOs with test kernels.

For the future we are investigating building RHEV-H differently, which will allow to use test kernels.

Please reopen this if you disagree.

Fabian,

We understand the fix is complex and that it might take a while until we would be able to implement this.
However, the goal of opening this RFE was to have this tracked somewhere, as future feature and having it in mind. That's why I do not like to see this RFE closed without any future action / note.

Maybe you have a bug tracker for such things?

Scott, how about you?

Comment 4 Fabian Deutsch 2015-02-04 23:28:35 UTC
Hey Marina,

I am fine in keeping this open as a tracker if you need this. As said in comment 2, we are working on a solution which will allow to use test kernels.

maybe close dup of a rhev-h.next rfe?

Comment 6 Fabian Deutsch 2015-02-09 14:42:01 UTC
Some how yes, but currently this depends on the way we take with next-gen.

Comment 7 Doron Fediuck 2015-04-13 14:14:32 UTC
This issue will be handled as a part of next generation node.
