Description Gaoyun Pei 2015-02-09 11:02:42 UTC
Description of problem:
After setting up a node, tuned-profiles-openshift-node would be installed as a dependency of openshift-node. But tuned couldn't work well in any available profile. There's always error logs in /var/log/tuned/tuned.log with each profile.

Also noticed that the tuning parameters in /usr/lib/tuned/openshift-node/tuned.conf, which is collected from v2 performance testing. Not sure these parameters will take effect in v3. So suggest remove tuned-profiles-openshift-node as a necessary package when installing node.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
tuned-2.4.1-1.el7.noarch
tuned-profiles-openshift-node-0.2.2-0.git.83.6d09bd9.el7ose.x86_64
openshift-node-0.2.2-0.git.83.6d09bd9.el7ose.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install the openshift-node related packages.
2.[root@openshift-v3 ~]# tuned-adm list
Available profiles:
- balanced
- desktop
- latency-performance
- network-latency
- network-throughput
- openshift-node
- powersave
- throughput-performance
- virtual-guest
- virtual-host
Current active profile: openshift-node
[root@openshift-v3 ~]# tuned-adm active
Current active profile: openshift-node
3. Check the /var/log/tuned/tuned.log

Actual results:
[root@openshift-v3 ~]# tailf /var/log/tuned/tuned.log

Comment 2 Scott Dodson 2015-02-11 23:30:11 UTC
Jeremy,

Are the following failures concerning?

2015-02-09 18:21:26,638 INFO tuned.plugins.hotplug: instance disk: adding new device loop0
2015-02-09 18:21:26,648 ERROR tuned.utils.commands: Executing hdparm error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory

hdparm isn't required by tuned package so it's not installed. Created bug 1191775 for that

2015-02-09 18:21:24,076 ERROR tuned.utils.commands: Executing cpupower error: analyzing CPU 1:
2015-02-09 18:21:24,076 ERROR tuned.plugins.plugin_cpu: could not get current governor on cpu 'cpu1'
2015-02-09 18:21:24,077 ERROR tuned.utils.commands: Reading /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors'
2015-02-09 18:21:24,077 INFO tuned.plugins.plugin_cpu: ignoring governor 'performance' on cpu 'cpu1', it is not supported

I guess virtual machines probably don't have governors? Do we need a derivative of openshift-node that accounts for virtual machines?

Comment 4 Scott Dodson 2015-02-13 22:07:00 UTC
This doesn't address any errors noted, but I've updated the packaging to provide host and guest (vm) specific profiles copied from atomic.

https://github.com/openshift/origin/pull/1016

Comment #3 is sufficient for me to say that we should not pull the tuned-profiles-openshift-node package. I think we should close this bug and open additional bugs against tuned for the first two items noted above, the third (hdparm) one already has a bug of its own.

Comment 9 Scott Dodson 2015-02-17 21:30:38 UTC
I'm closing this as NOTABUG, bugs have been created for various tuned related issues, nothing in this bug is specific to openshift profiles.
