Description of problem:
Alacarte disables OK key when there is an argument to a command

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
3.11.91-2.fc21

How reproducible:
Any desktop icon which has an argument appears to now have the OK key disabled

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open alacarte and create a new item
2. put test in the "Name:" field
3. put bash into the "Command:" field
4. OK button will now enable (darken)
5. put a space after bash (ready to have an argument) and the OK button is disabled (lighter).

Actual results:
Cannot edit/create commands with arguments

Expected results:
Should be allowed (used to be allowed)

I would think this is a simple fix and so would have thought after a month it would be corrected.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2015-11-04 12:58:16 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '21'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 3 Luigi Cantoni 2015-11-06 07:28:09 UTC
I have updated to Fedora 22 and the bug remains
I then updated to Fedora 23 and it is still there.

This bug should in fact a trivial fix since the OK key simply needs to be allowed to be active even though the procedure has arguments. It used to work like this before.

Comment 4 Luigi Cantoni 2016-06-16 01:20:54 UTC
Any chance this bug will get fixed as it should be a very simple matter to fix it and restore it to the working version that existed before.
6 months I think is long enough.

It does not look like a new version (only new build) for Fedora 24

Comment 7 Luigi Cantoni 2016-11-25 00:03:46 UTC
The problem still exists in FC24 as reported above.

Comment 8 Luigi Cantoni 2017-06-01 08:33:49 UTC
The problem is still here in FC25.
Can this please be fixed as it really is a simple fix and it is just WRONG.

I assume the reason nothing has been done is this is still the same version as it was with fc21 when I first noticed this error over 2 years ago.

Comment 9 Athos Ribeiro 2017-06-21 16:49:38 UTC
Hello Luigi,

It seems that the package maintainer (Jasper) does not work in Fedora anymore [1]. Following the comments in [1], it also seems that GNOME 3 does not use this package, so, unless someone still needs it, it may be retired from Fedora (I have no idea on this one). If you are a Fedora packager, you can start the process for unresponsive maintainers [2] and take the package for yourself. Else, you can either become a packager to maintain it, find someone to maintain it or let it go.

Note that it's been a while since the last time a new version was released for this package.

Comment 10 Luigi Cantoni 2017-06-26 06:38:43 UTC
menulibre is available as standard (but not enabled) and it works fine.
If you still wish to use alacarte you can create/alter the entry but make sure you have not optional arguments to the your exec command.
You can then just go into ~/.local/share/applications/ or /usr/share/applications and alter the .desktop file that has been made (or changed) and add it the argument.
