Description of problem: it's is impossible to install this network printer, when it's via net, I have not tried USB. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): hpijs-3.15.2-2.fc22.x86_64 hplip-libs-3.15.2-2.fc22.x86_64 hplip-common-3.15.2-2.fc22.x86_64 How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Additional info:
apologies, found it in the long list of HP printers. But gnome installer even though drivers are installed insist, or suggest on installing/adding hpijs. Eventually after printer was added I get: Idle - Error importing HPLIP modules:17353 No module named base.g
So, there are three possible bugs here: * the printer driver wasn't automatically selected This comes down to the details of how the printer advertises its presence on the network, and how you came to add the queue. Did you try the 'Printers' panel of Settings? i.e. how did you come to be using system-config-printer to start with? Then, when using system-config-printer, how did you point it at the device? Did it appear in the list of network devices, or did you have to find it by name/IP address? If you entered something, which did you enter? What does 'sudo lpinfo -l -v' say, and what does 'sudo /usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp $THE_HOST' say? * driver installation dialog even though drivers already installed This is tracked as part of bug #1159376. * import error I've not seen this one before. You'd installed HPLIP only from the RPM packages, right? Or had you tried installing it from some other source?
that is one thing, I think I made it an enhancement request in the past - system-config-printer gives out a more information when finding/detecting printers on network, Printers from gnome panel is useless when you have more than one printer of the same model on your network, even though you configure the printer to advertise itself uniquely this info is not presented in "Printer" but is in system-config-printer. In both "Printers" and system-config-printer my printer appear on the list. In both installer wants to add driver even though it's installed already. HP 3010p gets driver detected/chosen automatically, M551 does not. All the drivers are from rpms. outputs of commands attached.

# lpstat.cups -t scheduler is running system default destination: Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series device for Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-500-color-M551: dnssd://CCNR%20HP%20500%20color%20M551%20%5BBB9AAF%5D._ipp._tcp.local/?uuid=a74d2486-afe0-429d-b013-38b143b99e86 device for Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series: dnssd://CCNR%20HP%20P3010%20Series%20%5BFBF45A%5D._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/ Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-500-color-M551 accepting requests since Thu 19 Feb 2015 10:00:58 GMT Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series accepting requests since Thu 19 Feb 2015 10:28:17 GMT printer Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-500-color-M551 is idle. enabled since Thu 19 Feb 2015 10:00:58 GMT Error importing HPLIP modules:17353 No module named base.g printer Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series is idle. enabled since Thu 19 Feb 2015 10:28:17 GMT
restarting cups clears the error but asa I try to print: Error importing HPLIP modules:26213 No module named base.g
So this bug is left tracking the "No module named base.g" error. What does 'rpm -V hplip hplip-common hpijs' say?
seems like hplip wasn't even pulled in during printer installation. Some other hplib packages were, I mentioned above. now with the package manually installed: # lpstat.cups -t scheduler is running system default destination: Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series device for Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-500-color-M551: dnssd://CCNR%20HP%20500%20color%20M551%20%5BBB9AAF%5D._ipp._tcp.local/?uuid=a74d2486-afe0-429d-b013-38b143b99e86 device for Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series: dnssd://CCNR%20HP%20P3010%20Series%20%5BFBF45A%5D._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/ Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-500-color-M551 accepting requests since Mon 23 Feb 2015 16:04:54 GMT Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series accepting requests since Thu 19 Feb 2015 10:28:17 GMT printer Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-500-color-M551 is idle. enabled since Mon 23 Feb 2015 16:04:54 GMT Filter failed printer Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series is idle. enabled since Thu 19 Feb 2015 10:28:17 GMT Hewlett-Packard-HP-LaserJet-500-color-M551-28 pe243 1024 Mon 23 Feb 2015 16:04:50 GMT
OK, so something in that queue depends on the main hplip package, and for some reason the drivers-only package, hpijs, is not sufficient. Could you please attach the PPD for that queue, from the /etc/cups/ppd/ directory?

do you notice, in my last comment still - Filter failed.
OK, this is coming from the hpps filter. I think the answer is to move PPD files depending on that filter into the main hplip package.
Changed version to 20 as it affects F-20, F-21, F-22, and F-23.
