Would like to build marble with Qt5 support, and would be nice to be able to enable qextserialport support. That means we'll probably want a parallel-installable qextserialport-qt5 build, where there are no conflicts. From looking at qextserialport buildsys, it would appear it uses the same soname for qt4/qt5 builds, so we'll need to work with upstream to fix that. I'll work on a proof-of-concept patch soon.
I'm not sure whether upstream is interested to continue working on this. The project was taken over a couple of years ago, but development has ceased since. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/qextserialport/I5L6Omlw_z0
looks like the latest 1.2rc at github does have initial qt5 support, fwiw. I'll leave it up to you though (and keep serial support in marble disabled for now, at least until someone asks for it).
Is this ticket still relevant?
No one's asked for the marble feature, so we can consider this not worth doing. Can close this for now
