Description Jos de Kloe 2015-03-05 14:39:11 UTC
Description of problem:

the -no-bitmap-icon option of emacs seems not to work anymore

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

emacs-24.4-3.fc21.x86_64

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. use a desktop environment that shows iconified apps on the desktop window (I use fvwm)
2. start emacs like this:
emacs --no-bitmap-icon dummy_but_very_long_name.txt
3. iconify the emacs window by using ctl-z

Actual results:

the iconified emacs shows a bitmap icon with a clipped filename under it.

Expected results:

in iconified state emacs should only display an unclipped filename and no icon when the --no-bitmap-icon option is used. This is especially useful in case many files are open at the same time. Currently I have to hover the mouse over the iconified emacses to find out what their filename is. In previous versions the full filename was displayed, which makes it much easier to find the correct file.

Additional info:

this was introduced with f21. In f20 it still worked as expected.

Comment 1 Jos de Kloe 2015-03-05 15:32:28 UTC
a manual install of emacs-24.4 shows the same behaviour.
Manually installing emacs 24.3 shows the old (good) behaviour.

Also I forgot to mention that I normally use the --title option to set the title to be used on the icon. So the actual command I issue is:

$EMACSINSTALLDIR24.3/emacs --no-bitmap-icon dummy_but_very_long_name.txt --title dummy_but_very_long_name.txt
$EMACSINSTALLDIR24.4/emacs --no-bitmap-icon dummy_but_very_long_name.txt --title dummy_but_very_long_name.txt

so probably this is an upstream issue.

Comment 6 Jos de Kloe 2015-03-12 16:44:04 UTC
fixed upstream now, see: http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=19680
I would appreciate an update of emacs for the current fedora branches to fix this issue.
