When attempting to move a VM's disk from NFS domain to GlusterFS/Red Hat Storage domain fails with "the following disks cannot be moved" error but no indication as to why.

1) Using the existing template, a new VM was created in the NFS Storage domain.

2) Tried to move the New VM disk from NFS storage to GlusterFS Storage (both storages are in same domain) which didn't work with the existing

Ideally I'd like to find out two things from this bug

1) What is the reason that we can't move this disk

2) What can be done about the message so that it's more informational and will guide the user to do the right things to accomplish a task rather than leaving them confused.

Thanks!

Amit, this is an area you worked on. Please take a look?

Comment 4 Amit Aviram 2015-03-24 11:46:22 UTC
It seems that the disk that the user is trying to move is based on a template which does not exist in any other storage domain, and that is why the user can't move it.
The template should be copied to the storage domain in order for it to be available for the disk to move into.

as for actually seeing the reason for why the disk cannot be moved in the UI, that's a feature we're currently working on and will be out with the next release of oVirt:

Closing this bug as a duplicated bug.

Hi, the logs attached shows that still the disk "Applt1_Disk1" of the VM "nacaapplt6" is based on the Template "Applt1" which is located only on "nac-nas1-rhev3data".

Just to be sure, this is what you need to do to copy it to another storage:
1. Go to "Disks" tab in webadmin
2. Choose the disk "Applt1_Disk1" which is attached to "Applt1" ("Attached To" is the name of one of the columns)
3. press on the "copy" button at the upper pannel
4. choose as a target the desired storage domain in which you want to move the disk
5. Press on "Storage" subtab of that disk, and verify that the desired storage domains are shown there.

Now you should be able to move the disk.
Please contact me if that still doesn't work for you.

Thanks, Amit.
