system's X frequently locks up. ssh-ing into it and looking at kernel messages shows:

This seems to be triggered most frequently by saving a LibreOffice presentation.

system graphics card is:

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98 [GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2] (rev a1)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

happens a few times a day, especially in combination with LibreOffice

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.

Comment 2 Marek Greško 2015-03-30 17:08:23 UTC
I confirm this bug too. The exact way how to reproduce is to pick text ending with link to the clipboard from the libreoffice.org.

My graphic card is 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev a2).

Comment 3 Marek Greško 2015-04-02 20:14:16 UTC
The bug is present also in the Fedora 21 with latest updates. Could you, please, raise priority and severity? There are some tasks in libreoffice which cannot be done. X freezes at every attempt to do it.

Comment 4 zingale 2015-04-14 16:29:14 UTC
It looks like this may be a duplicate of Bug 1187919 - Nouveau with Kernel 3.18.3 Hangs Completely System

Comment 5 zingale 2015-04-14 16:41:14 UTC
and a duplicate of Bug 1189332 - LibreOffice freezes system, must hard shutoff to recover

and a duplicate of Bug 1203023 - some operations in LibreOffice are causing Xorg with nouveau to crash Xorg

It seems many people are hitting the Nouveau + Libreoffice crash

Comment 6 zingale 2015-04-17 18:05:32 UTC
I just hit this again, with kernel 3.19.3-200 on F21 (it happens after just a few seconds editing a file in LibreOffice). It's pretty reproducible, any time you try to use LibreOffice, after no more than a few minutes you'll get X to freeze.

Comment 7 TL 2015-04-27 20:34:35 UTC
I get this freeze almost once a day, always when using Libreoffice, really bad. Kernel 3.19.5-100, F20, 64-bit. Any workaround besides replacing with nvidia driver?

I'm seeing this issue as well. For me this is new since I upgraded to F21. I never saw it in F20.

In /var/log/messages there is first the nouveau error followed by several Xorg errors. I have attached a snippet you can check for more details.

Current kernel: kernel-3.19.5-200.fc21.x86_64
Video card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT216GL [Quadro 400] (rev a2)

I saw this freeze several times when using libreoffice. I can also 100% reproduce this while using wine (actually codeweavers' cxoffice variant) running Ms Access 2000 and opening a report in there. This never happened on F20. I does make F21 unusable for this machine.

Comment 9 Eugene Mah 2015-05-07 19:20:59 UTC
I've been experiencing this problem almost daily, and it almost always happens when I'm not at the computer. I walk away from my computer with it in a working state, come back and it's hung. Typically Chrome, pidgin, konsole and dolphin are the only user space programs running.

All that shows up in /var/log/messages is
May 7 13:29:49 tungsten kernel: [84596.931001] nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:09:00.0] still angry after 101 spins, halt
May 7 13:29:49 tungsten kernel: nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:09:00.0] still angry after 101 spins, halt

I have to ssh from a remote computer to reboot.

Kernel: 3.19.5-200.fc21.x86_64

Comment 10 zingale 2015-05-22 18:24:05 UTC
Note sure if it is fixed, but I was just able to use Libreoffice for about 1.5 hours without the nouveau lockup (usually it would only last for 5 minutes max). This was with kernel 3.19.7-200.fc21.x86_64 and libreoffice 4.3.7.2-5.fc21.x86_64

Comment 11 Marek Greško 2015-05-23 20:24:42 UTC
It is much better with the 3.19.7-200.fc21.x86_64 kernel, but I still found an PPS file which locked the X server.

I upgraded to F22 today. It seems the problems are fixed there.

Comment 12 info@kobaltwit.be 2015-05-28 08:02:27 UTC
The lockup still happens immediately with Ms Access under wine, even with 3.19.7-200.fc21.x86_64 kernel.

Comment 13 Jan Kurik 2015-07-15 14:23:31 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 23 development cycle.
Changing version to '23'.

(As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 23 development
cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 23 End Of Life. Thank you.)

More information and reason for this action is here:

Comment 14 Fedora End Of Life 2016-11-24 11:35:04 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '23'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 15 Fedora End Of Life 2016-12-20 13:22:57 UTC
Fedora 23 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-12-20. Fedora 23 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
