I'm building a patched version right now. I'll wait your feedback about this issue. About the epel branches, if you want to be the maintainer of those, I have no problem. Just confirm me what branches you want to maintain, and I'll request them.

rebuild for EL7 works fine for me (contains the requested patch). I'm able to maintain a package for EPEL 6 and EPEL 7.
