Description Bill Perkins 2015-03-29 19:00:25 UTC
Description of problem: I have two TV cards that were made by pcHDTV in two different x86_64 systems. They are HDTV cards that use the Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23880 style chip. I use both cards to handle the S-VHS video from two DVRs to display and capture the video outputs. This worked fine up through kernel version 3.18.9, but appears now to be broken starting with kernels 3.19.1 and 3.19.2. Both systems when using the 3.19 kernels display only colored confetti, not the S-VHS video input feed that appears, as it should, with the 3.18 and earlier kernels.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): HD-5500

How reproducible: On a system with a pcHDTV HD-5500 TV card using a 3.19.1 or 3.19.2 kernel, feed that card with a S-VHS signal, run the Tvtime program and you may see only colored confetti on that input. If you use a 3.18.9 or earlier kernel, you should see a proper video display. I

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install pcHDTV HD-5500 TV card on a system running a 3.19.[12] kernel.
2. Feed that card with a valid NTSC S-VHS signal.
3. Run the Tvtime application and select from Setup -> Input configuration -> Change video source: S-Video and see what you get.

Actual results: With a current 3.19 kernel: colored confetti.

Expected results: A proper NTSC displayed video.

Additional info: I do not watch TV on these cards using the usual TV signal input, because I have not been able to find an application that will display ATSC channels on these cards. I have used these cards only to display the S-VHS signals fed to them from the DVRs. I use Tvtime to display the video feeds via S-VHS, but Tvtime and XawTV do not cut the mustard in actually receiving and displaying ATSC signals. Both of these systems are running up to date installations of Fedora version 21.

Comment 1 Bill Perkins 2015-05-13 02:56:13 UTC
The current released kernel is 3.19.5-200 for Fedora 21. None of these 3.19 kernels have worked for me and the TV card. I am stuck running the 3.18.9-200.fc21.x86_64 kernel with Fedora 21 until I gain an understanding as to why the change to the 3.19 kernel broke the driver. Nothing seems to have been posted about this problem.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2015-11-04 12:00:43 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '21'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2015-12-02 10:39:28 UTC
Fedora 21 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-12-01. Fedora 21 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
