Description Bryan Yount 2015-04-07 00:56:56 UTC
Description of problem:
A customer recently deployed RHEL-OSP 6 and configured the environment to use Cinder block storage using fibre. However, none of the installation documents listed the installation of device-mapper-multipath as a requirement for Cinder. This requirement should be clearly stated.

Assigning to Radek for review.

Radek - when the required changes have been made, let's merge the working branch for this bug with master.

This content can be added to the Manual Setup guide in the chapter on installing the Block Storage service.

As the linked solution says, device-mapper-multipath is now required by openstack-cinder-2014.2.3-3.el7ost and openstack-nova-compute-2014.2.3-9.el7ost. As a result, you needn't specify device-mapper-multipath explicitly when you're installing the latest version of Cinder in OSP 6. Does it still make sense to specify device-mapper-multipath in the docs? Also, are there plans to add the dependency to the OSP-7 versions of the packages? I can't find copies of these bug reports planned for 7.0, and the latest packages built for 7.0 don't have this dependency.

(I'm also CCing the folks who added the deps to the OSP-6 packages.)

Thanks for the reminder about this, Radek. Now that Bug 1209336 has been resolved, and multipath is a dependency of cinder, I don't know if we need this in the docs any longer.
