Description Ralf Corsepius 2015-04-28 17:01:03 UTC
Description of problem:

With fc22, package-clean --orphans gives completely broken results, without dnf providing a substitute command:

e.g.

# package-cleanup --orphans
...
ProjectX-0.91.0-6.fc21.x86_64
...

However, this package definitely is present in a local repository.

dnf repoquery seems to confirm this:
# dnf repoquery ProjectX
...
ProjectX-0:0.91.0-6.fc21.x86_64
...

# rpm -q ProjectX
ProjectX-0.91.0-6.fc21.x86_6

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
dnf-0.6.5-1.fc22.noarch

How reproducible:
No idea. I see all packages which have been installed from a local repository (using dnf) reported as "orphans".

Expected results:
Correct results or dnf to provide a functional replacement for package-cleanup.

Additional info:
package-cleanup (esp. --orphans) used to be one of the most important package management commands when Fedora was using yum. Particularly important after dist-upgrades. Since dnf was made default in Fedora, package-cleanup is unusable => yet another usability regression caused by dnf.

Hello Ralf,

 dnf list extras

is what you are looking for.

Thanks for your reply. This is indeed what I was looking for.

But ... WTH was this called "list extras"? People who have been using Fedora are used to this kind of packages being called "orphans" and not "extras".
"orphans" has an implicit meaning, "extras" doesn't.

Please consider to change this "extras" into "orphans".

Sigh, one of these unused options, likely no experienced user ever used. Also more evidence of the dnf-team lacking experience with Fedora

Yes, it's not a secrect, that I am really pissed by this low quality dreck.

It is called extras be cause it is extras packages on the system, not available in the repositories. It has always be called extras in yum.

[root@infinity duff]# package-cleanup --orphans

Yum-utils package has been deprecated, use dnf instead.
See 'man yum2dnf' for more information.
