Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

manual partitioning at 800x600 (bad)

Description of problem:
When installing RHEL7.1 under VMware (verified under Fusion 5.0.4, Fusion 7.1.1, Workstation 9.0.4, and ESXi 5.5), the GUI for manual partitioning is too big to fit into the console and portions of the GUI are inaccessible. There are no scrollbars available to scroll the hidden parts into view.

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the rhel-server-7.1-x86_64-dvd.iso image inside VMware
2. Select English(US)
3. Select "Installation Destination"
4. Select "I will configure partitioning"
5. Click "Done"

Actual results:
See attached screenshot. Note that much of the manual partitioning window appears offscreen. Also note that it's not covering all of the base "Installation Summary" window; it appears offset down and to the right. (Maybe there are scrollbars that just can't be seen or accessed.)

Expected results:
I've also attached a screenshot at the same point where I've edited the kernel boot options to change the framebuffer resolution using "vga=773". Note that the partitioning window is not offset and that all of the elements are accessible.

Additional info:
It seems that there are potentially two bugs here:
1. The manual partitioning window doesn't display properly at 800x600 console resolution, and
2. The installation CD isn't choosing an optimal framebuffer mode under VMware

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 1212615 ***

Comment 4 Ian Gibbs 2015-07-23 11:21:44 UTC
It doesn't seem at all appropriate to mark this is a duplicate of 1212615. That bug has been been closed by making one label shorter, which won't have any impact at all on this issue.

Please can you re-open and address this separate issue.

Comment 5 David Shea 2015-07-23 13:22:54 UTC
Bug 1212615 was closed by making a label shorter, and by making a text entry shorter, and by ellipsizing several dropdown boxes so that the full width of the label (especially longer ones such as "LVM Thin Provisioning") does not need to be shown in the UI when not selecting an entry from the dropdown boxes. Bug 1212615 is an issue with the custom partitioning window size when provisioning a ppc guest using kimchi, because kimchi provides a novnc display with a resolution of 800x600. This is not a separate issue.
