MATE's control center (mate-control-center-1.10.0-1.fc22.x86_64) no longer shows the "Touchpad" tab under the "Mouse" section. What's more, even though my previous settings (e.g. tap-to-click) were retained during the upgrade to f22 (I checked in dconf-editor), they have no effect. I have to manually enable tap-to-click via xinput at each session, i.e. xinput set-prop 11 "libinput Tapping Enabled" 1 This is on a Lenovo g50-30 laptop with an Elantech touchpad and the system is using the libinput driver. I also noticed that I had Wayland running on tty1 (started by gdm) and Xorg with the mate session on tty2. Wolfgang Ulbrich suggested I investigate if that was causing trouble, so I rebooted to runlevel 3, started MATE, and the problem was still there. (On an interesting side note, when using graphical.target as the default, if I kill wayland, when gdm restarts it, I can spawn another Xorg instance by logging in and I end up with two separate Xorg sessions with MATE, plus gdm running on Wayland. I haven't tried exhausting the available ttys...)
Does the issue exists if you **don't use** gdm as display-manager. Please try out lightdm.
Yes, I got rid of gdm, set up a simple xinitrc file for mate (just with "exec mate-session") and then I went into graphical mode with startx. I made sure that no instances of gdm or wayland were running before and after starting X.
and no touchpad configuration tab without gdm/x-wayland-server?
Nope. I just checked again, it's the same in both cases. No touchpad tab, no tap-to-click.
Ok, so it's not prob with running 2 X-servers or gdm. I updated my laptop (msi700fx) to f22 today and i have touchpad tap and i can enable the 'tab-to-click' function, also 2 fingers scrolling is working. Lightdm is the display-manager. So, it's not a general problem to detect touchpads by mate-mouse-properties. With f21 on the same notebook everthing was working? Can you do a 'dnf groupinstall mate-desktop' again, to be shure that no mate package is missing? Can you try another livecd to see if other desktops have this prob, maybe there is a hardware regression with f22? If it's work there, it should be working during a running live session.
I forgot to say, here the libinput driver isn't installed.
Alex, i got it. If i intall libinput + xorg-x11-drv-libinput the touchpad tab is gone. Can you uninstall both? Where can i send the bill? :)
Can post the output for 'synclient' if libinput is installed?
(In reply to Wolfgang Ulbrich from comment #5) > With f21 on the same notebook everthing was working? Input-wise, yes. I had performed a clean install of f21 workstation. > Can you do a 'dnf groupinstall mate-desktop' again, to be shure that no mate > package is missing? I will in a few hours, when I get home. In f21 I had the mate-desktop-extra packages from your repository, will you be making another one for f22? > Can you try another livecd to see if other desktops have this prob, maybe > there is a hardware regression with f22? If I log into Gnome, my settings work. I didn't think to check if Gnome runs on Wayland or Xorg, will do when I get home. > If i intall libinput + xorg-x11-drv-libinput the touchpad tab is gone. > Can you uninstall both? Shouldn't we all be learning to live with libinput as the default input driver from here on? > Where can i send the bill? :) Sonnemannstrasse 22, 60314 Frankfurt am Main. Make it to "Mr. Mario". > Can post the output for 'synclient' if libinput is installed? As soon as I return home.
