RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Product Errata RHEA-2015:2139 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE new packages: gnome-software 2015-11-19 09:23:22 UTC

Description Matthias Clasen 2015-05-28 19:38:06 UTC
With the Fedora 21 packages as they are now, we get the following in the menus:

Software (gnome-software)
Packages (gpk-application)
Package Updates (gpk-update-viewer)

In 7.0, we had:

Software (gpk-application)
Software Update (gpk-update-viewer)

We need to determine if we want to patch this so the old tools keep their names - if we do so, we need to come up with a) a different name for gnome-software and b) translations.

A possible suggestion would be 'Applications'.

We also need to remove the 'Settings' category from the gpk-application desktop file to make it show up in the 'System tools' menu instead of 'Other'.

Comment 1 Matthias Clasen 2015-06-10 12:53:09 UTC
As somebody pointed out: Applications clashes with the label we use in the top bar, so maybe "Application Installer"

Comment 2 Matthias Clasen 2015-07-08 13:20:53 UTC
in the desktop pm meeting today, we agreed on "Application Installer"

Where should the "Application Installer" appear? I have
gnome-packagekit-3.14.3-4.el7.x86_64
gnome-packagekit-installer-3.14.3-4.el7.x86_64
installed but gpk-application's window is called "Software", Top Bar menu is called "Software" and in the menu I can see:

Check for Updates
Software Sources
Refresh Package Lists
Software Log

Comment 5 Matthias Clasen 2015-07-16 18:19:25 UTC
Yeah, this is not quite fixed.

I do see gpk-updates show up as "Software Update" in System Tools, as expected, but gpk-application shows up as "Software" in "Other" - it should be in System Tools as well. And gnome-software is still called "Software" here.

This is with
gnome-packagekit-3.14.3-4.el7
gnome-software-3.14.6-2.el7

That's too old. The patch that renames gnome-software to "Application Installer" was only applied to gnome-software-3.14.6-5.el7

gnome-packagekit-3.14.3-5.el7 (build under way) should fix this up.

Comment 8 Kalev Lember 2015-07-17 17:55:55 UTC
This is how the System Tools menu now looks here with gnome-packagekit-3.14.3-5.el7 and gnome-software-3.14.6-5.el7:

Comment 9 Bohdan Milar 2015-07-24 12:14:50 UTC
The menu item changes for gpk-application, gpk-update-viewer, gpk-prefs and gpk-log are counted in several test cases of the actual Desktop QE RHEL 7.x test plan.

Comment 10 Bohdan Milar 2015-09-07 11:53:14 UTC
Tested versions:
- gnome-packagekit-3.14.3-5.el7
- gnome-software-3.14.7-2.el7

Tested archs:
- x86_64
- ppc64le
- aarch64

Results:
- gpk-application is presented as "Software"
- gpk-update-viewer is presented as "Software Update"
- gnome-software is presented as "Application Installer"
The new "names" appear in system menu (under "System Tools"), in Activities overview ("Show Applications" screen and search results) and after launched also in the top bar (Gnome panel).
