*** Bug 1210103 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
This is closely related to Bug 1227946, which has a more colorful descriiption of the pain this dropped feature is causing one user, but which has a much less useful title. "Move to Trash" and "Delete" Permanently are both highly useful Nautilus action options and both should be supported. Ideally both might be options that could be set in preferences as enabled or disabled, with either or both enabled. If dropping support for direct permanent deletion in the f22 release of Nautilus was a deliberate act and not unintentional, that was a bad decision that should be reversed. "Move to Trash" is a reasonable default for newbies, and a useful option even for experienced users in cases where you are not absolutely 100% certain you would never want the file back. If a permament delete option is conditionally available, it probably even makes sense to have that disabled by default to protect newbies from themselves. For intelligent users, there are many cases where being able to manually select a file for immediate "permanent delete" makes a lot of sense and saves effort -- for example, a deliberate act to recover filesystem space by eliminating 100%-useless large files; or a deliberate act to make it much harder for someone to find files with sensitive data that you no longer need to retain. The absence in f22 of the "permanant-delete"-bypassing-Trash option from Nautilus means that to get that desired effect you now have to do additional steps to separately delete the items from Trash, increasing both the work involved and the odds of making an error and omitting an intended step.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1227946 This one user has many other users (read 1227946. The command line tool rm does not have or offer a trash option. Nautilus should absolutely allow the bypass of the trash bin. I filed 1227946. I and others have switched to nemo. It is what Nautilus was and obsoletes the need for nautilus. I use dropbox and it uses nautilus, otherwise pssft, nautilus would be gone, as being redundant and less functional tool to alternative. Nautilus is not restored for Fedora23 alpha 1.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1227946 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1192903 The Nautilus functionality that exists with Fedora 21 should be restored to Fedora 22 and future Fedora versions (example Fedora 23 and Fedora23++).
Please include this corrective in Fedora 23 Nautilus. The recent versions of Nautlius has removed options that I used so as to avoid Carpal Tunnel problems. 1 Optional direct delete to avoid Trash bin. 2 Ability to unmount a mounted drive by directly clicking on it's icon image (on the desktop). The problems occur as pains in the ligaments or the nerves adjacent to the ligaments in the arm. Excessive clicking on the mouse or excessive keyboard clicking with the same key causes it. The pain can be reduced with iebprofan medication, but it is important to have a Fedora Gnome interface that has shortcuts to reduce the amount of mouse clicks, and finger ligament pain. What I would like to do is to use the Nautilus from F21 in place of the F22 and F23 versions. Or at least, port those short cuts forward. Any clues or advice. ??? Refer also to Bugzilla 1206929
Solved in Gnome 3.18 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=756637#c5
fyi Comment 6 seems not true See new bug for old bug here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=760001
Resolved in Fedora 23 and 24. This bug report can be closed.
I do not see such an option into Nautilus 3.18.5.
Yeah, I see "Delete permanently" in 3.20.1 (F24) but not in 3.18.5 (F23). I only see the "Move to Trash" option in the latter unless it's a hidden option in 3.18.
Even with 3.20.1 under F24, you may still have to enable the option: Files -> Preferences -> Behavior -> Trash and turn on option to "Show Action to permanently delete files"
