I don't see missing characters anymore in Fedora 22, but I still occassionally see substituted characters. For example I was viewing a wikipedia article the other day where all the "if" and "iff" character sequences where replaced with some type of heart symbol. Copy and paste into gedit revealed the correct characters. I'm thinking his might be a memory overwrite issue in a library such as libiconv rather than a rendering issue.
A new situation: The missing letters situation got so bad, that the PC was practically unusable. A hunch I had got me to remove the xorg.conf file I had to create as a workaround for bug #1215444, and it seems like it solved the missing letters problem (and the issue from the old bug seems to have disappeared; everything looks OK without this file). Unfortunately, the system still hangs after a while as described in bug #1224808.
I get this on my fresh install of Fedora 22 on an ASUS P9X79 WS with a Xeon E5-2650L and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti running straight default gnome on top of nouveau. Real annoying! What's going on? gnome-shell-3.16.3-1.fc22.x86_64 kernel-4.1.6-200.fc22.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-1.0.11-2.fc22.x86_64 Just let me know what other information might be useful to solve this issue.
