RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Matěj Cepl 2015-07-04 23:36:11 UTC
Created attachment 1046091 [details]
partial traceback

Description of problem:
There doesn't seem to be a good way how to reproduce this. When enabling joinlines plugin, gedit quite often suddenly crashes (without any actual use of the Join Lines method).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gedit-plugins-3.14.1-2.el7.x86_64

How reproducible:
quite often (given I don't know how to reproduce it is hard to say more)

Core dump is attached to another bug as attachment 1046089 [details] and partial traceback (see bug 1239240 for more information, why just partial) is attached.

perhaps patch resolving the issue

This patch has been suggested in the upstream bug, but it needs more testing before I can say it is the solution.

upsted version of the patch

I was using a class method outside of the class.

Comment 9 Ray Strode [halfline] 2016-04-12 18:48:42 UTC
so actually it looks like I built this into 7.2 and forgot to update the bug.

Comment 10 Ray Strode [halfline] 2016-04-12 19:17:49 UTC
Oh, reopening. Some fixes related to this bug went into 7.2, but some additional fixes need to go in 7.3 (but they're already built), so moving back to MODIFIED.

Comment 12 Martin Simon 2016-07-27 12:55:03 UTC
I've used gedit-3.14.3-17.el7.x86_64 quiet lot with the mentioned joinlines plugin enabled and unicode characters in it and never mentioned this crash. Due the "quite often" in description and no better reproducer, I suppose the bug is fixed.

Matej, could you please confirm? Otherwise, reopen this report, please. Thank you.

Yes, with gedit-plugins-3.14.1-5.el7.x86_64 (and specifically gedit-plugin-joinlines-3.14.1-5.el7.x86_64) and gedit-3.14.3-18.el7.x86_64, the crash is gone.
