Description marc-schmitzer 2015-07-05 11:55:29 UTC
Description of problem:
Upgraded to Fedora 22/Plasma5. Desktop elements, windows and menus are drawn only partially, not at all or with artifacts. Moving the mouse, clicking things, opening context menus causes partial redraws, but things stay mostly broken. Eventually, the whole system freezes.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kwin-5.3.2-1.fc22.i686

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log into plasma session.

Actual results:
Broken graphics.

Expected results:
Stuff should work.

Comment 1 marc-schmitzer 2015-07-05 16:08:00 UTC
I can get the desktop to render properly by forcing kwin to use its XRender backend. The system still locks up within the first minutes of doing anything, though.

Comment 2 marc-schmitzer 2015-07-05 18:00:11 UTC
So, after also disabling OpenGL for applications by setting QT_XCB_FORCE_SOFTWARE_OPENGL=1 I now have a usable plasma5 system.

Triaging to nouveau driver component.

Comment 4 marc-schmitzer 2015-07-09 20:18:43 UTC
I've been playing with piglit a little to see what the OpenGL situation on my system is. Turns out it doesn't even pass the "sanity" test.

For what it's worth, running other tests gets a lot of "pass", but also a good number of "fail" and eventually locks up the graphics and oopses the kernel.

Comment 5 nucleo 2015-08-15 09:47:34 UTC
Effects with OpenGL 2.0 mostly working (except Blur) on Fedora 23 Alfa live CD.
I tried to install F23 4.2.0 kernel in F22 but effects still broken with OpenGL.
xorg-x11-drv-nouveau version 1.0.11 both in F22 and F23.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2016-07-19 19:14:03 UTC

no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
