Comment 8 Štefan Gurský 2015-10-17 07:48:43 UTC
Description of problem:
I do not really know what happened. I woke the system up after sleep.

Before that I did the following: I put system to sleep by pressing power button while logged in (Gnome), then I woke it up (again using power button to check gnome bug 753678 (Desktop temporarily visible after wake up from suspend)) and then I pressed power button again to put it into sleep without logging back in (while on lock screen with clock). After the following wake up and logging in (several hours later) got this notification from abrt.

Comment 16 DuvJones 2016-01-16 02:19:55 UTC
While under Wayland, I came across this issue...

Comment 17 DuvJones 2016-01-16 22:59:32 UTC
Since having this happen, I have noticed three things, the does seem to be common after the system is put to sleep and woken from that. Two, and I am not sure of this, it seems to be happening with the heavier DE's. I am on Gnome and Cinnamon, it has been more common on Gnome for me (after I play a video). And three, maybe it is me, but every time this has happened, my system has be rather hot...

I hope that helps.

I can confirm too that my laptop gets pretty hot

Well, I guess I can rule out the first two points.... after noticing that the heat problem was effecting my Window partition as well (and my fan wasn't spinning), I did a little cleaning of the system. It has been fine ever since. And since I have been doing a shake down run of Gnome to see if it would crash like it has been when I first posted... it hasn't failed. So I can rule out Gnome being a cause, mostly.
I am still having this happen but the system has been surviving it and not failing entirely, so... I guess things are ok.

Comment 20 Neil 2016-01-17 17:31:38 UTC
My temperature test was made with lm_sensors. from 15°C to 20°C sometimes with complete freeze of the system, can't even tty or ctrl+alt+backspace (kill X).

Comment 21 Onuralp SEZER 2016-01-18 10:35:00 UTC
I have fresh fedora install with updated kernel. I thought last one was just maybe happened because of "upgrade" but still nothing changed. It's happens mostly when I use "google-chrome" but now I'm using mostly "firefox" and when I open any kind of video and change quality to HD It's crash and my fan noising and dmesg show same problem i posted. Sometimes crashing happen for no reason. Using gnome-shell become pain because I change windows or workspace too quickly It's response slowly and some freeze happening. Also there is almost hundred different kind of intel problem on bugzilla and same sort of error but different line code in the same file.

Comment 22 Christian Stadelmann 2016-01-18 12:21:45 UTC
@Neil (Comment #20): You should try sysrq keys. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key and linux kernel docs in file "Documentation/sysrq.txt". Please report whether you can kill X/Wayland with that key combo.

This happens several hundred times a day for me. Any chance to end it?

Gnome-abrt shows me this happened 3826 times in the last 24 days on one machine. Numbers are constantly increasing while I'm running a Gnome+Wayland session. This probably is the reason why people report their laptop getting pretty hot (comment #17, comment #18).

Can anyone (In reply to DuvJones from comment #16)
> While under Wayland, I came across this issue...
Me too.

Has anyone seen this issue under X11?
Has anyone seen this issue with something else than Gnome?
Can anyone confirm this has been worse since updating xorg-x11-server from 1.18.1 to 1.18.2?

Comment 30 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2016-04-11 21:14:38 UTC
Proposed as a Blocker for 24-final by Fedora user genodeftest using the blocker tracking app because:

This bug happens thousands of times per hour (sic!), about each third second. It generates CPU load, disk usage and slows down the system, floods journal and keeps abrt-dump-journal-oops busy. This violates section "SELinux and crash notifications" of final release criteria.

The only reason it could not be a Final Blocker is being not common. I have no metrics to judge on this, but maybe you have.

Comment 32 Kamil Páral 2016-04-18 17:29:45 UTC
Discussed at today's blocker review meeting [1]. Voted as punt (delay decision) - if this affects common hardware in a default configuration it's potential blocker material, but we want to check for non-Wayland cases and discuss with the relevant developers before making a decision

Is there anything I should do about that? (I'm new to all this organizational stuff related to blocker bugs.)

Since you're frequently affected by this, can you very this also happens under X11 (the current F24 default)?

It also happens on X11/Gnome sessions the same as it happens on Wayland/Gnome sessions, at least ten times per minute.

It does not happen, however, on other X11 sessions (I tested Openbox and Plasma 5.6). For anyone hit too hard by this bug, using another DE could be a useful workaround.

Comment 36 Christian Stadelmann 2016-04-30 20:04:30 UTC
Now this issue has gone – I don't know why and I don't know which update/change triggered this.

Can anybody else confirm that this issue is gone with latest updates-testing updates installed?

Voting against making this a freeze exception or blocker.

Comment 37 Tim Flink 2016-05-02 22:16:14 UTC
Discussed during the 2016-05-02 blocker review meeting [1]:

The decision on whether to accept this bug as a blocker has been delayed - it seems that it may have been fixed recently. Need to ask other reporters if they are still seeing the problem and re-consider at the next blocker review meeting

Rejected as a blocker as the issue seems to have been fixed. Please repropose this as a blocker if you experience it on a fully updated system.

I haven't seen this since 2016-04-27, running both gnome+x11 and gnome+wayland sessions. In case someone can confirm this bug is fixed you may want to close it.

Geoffrey, if you add RejectedBlocker, please also drop the blocker bug ID from "Blocks:" field, per our guidelines, thanks :) I'm doing it now.

Comment 43 Christian Stadelmann 2016-06-25 11:20:05 UTC
I ran into this issue very often on Fedora 23, but it is gone from Fedora 24. Can anyone confirm that please?

Comment 44 Fedora End Of Life 2016-11-24 12:15:08 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '23'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 45 Fedora End Of Life 2016-12-20 14:19:39 UTC
Fedora 23 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-12-20. Fedora 23 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
