RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

test-wk.c

A simple test application which reproduces the issue out of evolution, with plain WebKitWebView component. I see the same in Fedora 22, though the difference of the 'r' is not that much visible.

Comment 3 Milan Crha 2015-08-19 08:19:26 UTC
The example uses Cantarell font family with 11pt size. Changing the size to 12pt makes the 'r' look like the other letters.

Comment 7 Mark Chappell 2015-09-07 15:04:52 UTC
Not sure if this helps narrow down the cause, but I'm also seeing the same rendering issue in Thunderbird and TweakTool.

Comment 9 Jakub Steiner 2015-09-08 13:36:17 UTC
This is indeen an issue in the Cantarell font. It has been addressed upstream with the following commit -- https://git.gnome.org/browse/cantarell-fonts/commit/?id=8b8b5200752b717c9571a5d3cb1c1371b0201c68

Comment 10 Marek Kašík 2015-09-08 13:47:28 UTC
Thank you very much. I'm reassigning this to the 'abattis-cantarell-fonts' package then.

This changes session font, not sure if this is expected

Comment 17 Kalev Lember 2015-09-11 11:10:24 UTC
Jakub, can you confirm please if this change is expected? Here's my two screenshots, before and after the 'r' hinting fix:

Comment 18 Kalev Lember 2015-09-11 12:49:07 UTC
Looks like it's caused by rebuilding the otf files with RHEL 7.2's fontforge. With newer fontforge 20141230 in Fedora 22 they come out right, but the older fontforge 20120731b in RHEL 7.2 messes them up.

Comment 19 Kalev Lember 2015-09-11 15:23:13 UTC
OK, the regression should be now fixed in abattis-cantarell-fonts-0.0.16-3.el7.

Comment 21 Bill Sanford 2015-09-11 15:51:51 UTC
Verified with RHEL-7.2-20150904.0 & libreoffice-4.3.7.2-5.el7.x86_64

Comment 22 Bill Sanford 2015-09-11 15:56:25 UTC
And evolution-3.12.11-15.el7.x86_64
