Description of problem: The initial release of Fedora 22 KDE Live install was a disaster. It was broken in many different ways & was more like a beta. This is something that can turn new users away from Fedora, or any Linux distro in general, forever. Even though the problems were mostly with KDE, it still falls on Fedora. Fedora 22 from the live install was broken, BUT, the net install was much better. Things weren't completely missing & broken when installed with the netinstall image. The netinstall gives a user many different options to choose from, whereas the live install is very limited in scope. It also works better than the live install. It is currently not easy to find the netinstall images on the website. Also, there is no info shown about them at all, so in case an unknowing user happens to catch sight of them, they probably won't even know what those images are & won't dare to bother with them. They'll also see the much smaller size of the netinstall images & think they're some kind of downgrade. For these reasons, the netinstall images should at least have an explanation for them. The live install currently has this on the downloads page ("What is a Live image?"). This should be done for the netinstall images as well. Actually, it should be placed right underneath the "What is a Live image?" paragraph on the downloads page. IN SUMMARY... -Let people know that a netinstall option exists. -Explain what the netinstall option is / what it offers. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 23 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: New users will suffer. Expected results: People will be able to easily find the netinstall images, & actually know exactly what they are & what they offer. Additional info: This should be done starting with the upcoming stable release of Fedora 23. This will also help people in a case, such as when one of the spins (KDE) is completely broken upon Fedora's "stable" release.
I don't disagree, but this is probably best as a ticket for the websites team, backed by the Workstation working group for Fedora Workstation, or the KDE SIG for the KDE spin. I'll forward this on to the relevant groups.
OK, thanks. Sorry about that. That components dropdown list is very confusing for me. I didn't know what to put this under. Yes, it would be very much appreciated if you could forward this to whoever deals with it. Thanks again!!! :D :D :D
