the fix

Description of problem:
The default config is WAAAAY off for alsa emulation under pulse.Using a asoundrc file doesnt address the issue. Basically usb and other devices are allowed to hijack the main device (card) area. This should never be. We need to be more like ubuntu and the others where the default device (HW:0) is the onboard soundcard. Caveat emptor to anyone wanting a USB sound card to be the default.

This explains why mednafen isnt working. Well other than the bad code forcing me to examine this option and ignoring my sound choices....

Obviously my changes need some changing for older ISA cards, Blasters, etc. etc. Ode to the Blaster when Linux config was easy as pie.Not so much anymore.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
discovered in 22

How reproducible:
always, until fixed

Steps to Reproduce:
aplay -l to list devices
cat /proc/asound/modules to see whats loaded where (O NO U DI NT!)
and of course! speaker-test -D hw:x,y -cZ where x and y are in the aplay output and z being number of channels to output test. Stereo, FIVE, SEVEN, whatever...I think I have 8 jacks on the back....

patch enclosed:

my crosshair V uses the intel standard ALC series 88? chipset
(shame on me, unsupported bios!!!)
